Are You a Surgical Candidate?

Am I a Surgical Candidate? Typically, surgery is the last step in the process of getting you back to doing what you love if all else fails. Before surgery is suggested we recommend physical therapy, injections, and other non-surgical methods of relieving pain. If all else fails, you may indeed be a surgical candidate.
What comes first?
Here at Axis Spine and Orthopedics, if you are not an immediate surgical candidate then we suggest more conservative methods of healing first. Lots of the time pain comes from the lack of supporting muscles helping the pained area and/ or nerve related pain. During our physical therapy sessions, we can pinpoint the pain areas and work to relieve the pain, help strengthen that area, and potentially help with reducing inflammation and compression on those nerves that may be causing pain. All these techniques are non-surgical and can help avoid having to have an actual surgery to fix the pained area. We also offer epidural injections that can help reduce the pain. When paired with physical therapy, this has been proven to be very beneficial to a lot of patients by limiting their pain, helping them get through everyday movements and mechanics, and relieving the stress or anxiety that might come with having to undergo a surgical procedure.
The Next Steps
After Physical Therapy and joint and/or spine injections are tried and proven not to provide long term relief then you may be a candidate for surgery. Here at Axis Spine and Orthopedics, we do an advanced review of your X-Rays, MRIs, and symptoms that you are experiencing to see what minimally invasive surgery is best for you. At Axis Spine and Orthopedics, we focus on minimally invasive surgeries to reduce the size of the surgical area, avoid larger muscle groups, and to help you heal faster post-surgery.

At Axis Spine and Orthopedics, surgery isn’t the first step in the healing process, but we are here to help you get back to it if you are a surgical candidate!
