Daily Activities That You May Not Realize Are Bad for Your Spine!

Daily Activities

Many daily activities, when performed incorrectly, can negatively impact your spine. Simple awareness and adjustments can make a big difference in maintaining spinal health. One common culprit is sitting, especially for long periods of time. Slouching or hunching over a desk or steering wheel puts excessive pressure on the discs and muscles of the lower back and neck. To mitigate this, sit with proper lumbar support, keep your shoulders relaxed, and ensure your monitor is at eye level. Taking frequent breaks to stand up and stretch can also alleviate pressure. Lifting objects is also another area where poor technique can lead to spinal strain. Bending at the waist to pick up items places undue stress on the lower back. Instead, bend at your knees, keep your back straight, and hold the object close to your body. Distributing weight evenly and avoiding twisting motions while lifting can further protect your spine.
