Signs Your Pain May Be Nerve Related

It’s easy to confuse nerve pain with other types of pain, especially when you’re already experiencing discomfort. Nerve pain is different from typical muscle or joint pain and can often have a distinct feeling or pattern. Nerve pain may feel like an electric shock, burning, tingling, or sharp pain and can sometimes cause numbness or weakness. Unlike muscle soreness that may stay in one specific area, nerve pain often radiates along a specific pathway, such as from your lower back into your hip and leg or from your neck into your shoulder and arm.

Nerve pain can be caused by irritation or compression of a nerve, which may result from conditions such as a herniated disc, spinal stenosis, bone spurs, or other changes in the spine. Symptoms can vary from person to person and may come and go or become more noticeable with certain movements or activities. If pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness continues or begins interfering with your everyday activities, it is important to have your symptoms evaluated rather than assuming they are simply muscle or joint pain.

Here at Axis Spine and Orthopedics, we can help evaluate your symptoms and work to identify what may be causing your pain. Understanding whether your symptoms are related to a nerve, muscle, joint, or another spinal condition is an important first step toward finding the appropriate treatment. If you’re experiencing persistent or radiating pain, contact Axis Spine and Orthopedics to learn more about your options and take the next step toward getting BACK to It.
